Christian community development in rural Zambia

WHO

Choshen farm is a non-denominational, not-for-profit organization overseen by a board of directors. The organization is stewarded by two full time workers, and many part-time volunteers. As ambassadors for Christ, we hold ourselves and our ministry to very high standards as described in documents on the right.

Co-Directors and Long-Term Ministry Stewards
JeremyJeremy Colvin: This accountant/farmer/jack of all trades began his work in Africa as a volunteer with various mission sites in South Africa. In 2006, the Lord opened the doors for him to begin work in Fimpulu after a Zambian pastor invited him to come and develop a plot of farm land. Jeremy focuses on developing the physical land of Choshen Farm that it might be a resource benefiting the entire community. His passions are discipleship, children, and church unity.

BethanyBethany Colvin:
Bethany arrived in Fimpulu in 2007 as a Peace Corps volunteer focusing on rural health education. Over the course of her two year volunteer commitment she fell in love both with Fimpulu and Jeremy. The two were wed in July of 2009 at which point Bethany began formally working with Choshen Farm. Bethany will be focusing on Home Based Care as a platform for relationship development in the community. Her passions are leadership, language and women’s ministry.

Short Term Volunteers
Choshen Farm is blessed to partner with different churches and groups interested in investing in Fimpulu in different capacities. Choshen Farm has hosted 3 groups traveling internationally to offer their skills and service, and to interact with our friends in Mansa District.

jo burgJohannesburg Team, June 2007
The team from Jo’Burg was comprised of representatives from various churches across the Johannesburg area. They assisted in Zambias health campaign, Child Health Week; helped build Choshen’s ministry house and were an overall delight for the community in the form of games, songs and balloons!

GarlandGarland Avenue Alliance Church, November 2008
The Garland team came on a fact-finding trip as a way of establishing a long-term relationship between GAAC and Choshen Farm. They interacted and discussed with different community based organizations, Church and Village leadership, and Choshen stewards. Their trip resulted in a strategic plan surrounding the partnership between GAAC and Choshen, outlining involvement for the next 5 years.

OCBCOregon City Bible Church, May 2009
OCBC worked with the Fimpulu church community to construct and stock the Learning Resource Center, conduct health related workshops in the community, and engage families within the village.

INVITATION TO OTHER VOLUNTEERS
Choshen Farm is welcoming of both individuals and groups interested in coming to serve in various capacities.
Choshen Farm’s ministry house, the Mizpah House, is designed to accommodate short term teams wishing to volunteer for several days or several weeks. We appreciate our ever expanding circle of relationships with Churches and Organizations world-wide, and value the partnerships developing between the Fimpulu community and those abroad.

For individuals looking to extend their stay for several months, a full year, or more by interning with Choshen Farm, both food and accommodation will be provided for. Opportunities exist across a wide spectrum of focuses, be it agriculture, health, education, women’s ministry, youth development, church development or something completely unique. Choshen Farm considers it a privilege to host those individuals wishing to serve while also growing in their own understanding of cross-cultural missions.
